On Hand Script for Your Web Site is Ready.

Published 25 November 06 12:18 PM | Ben

Well, one short week and the API is done.  You can now put it on your live sites.  I know some of you already have.  Though, now that I am done, I don't consider it an API.  It really only serves one function, so from here on out, I will refer to it as the On Hand Script.  The good news is that in building this little script I have gone off in a different direction that has lead to a real API.  I will post more when it is ready to be tested.

The differences beween the script and the new API will be tremendous.  The script simply states the on hand or stock status.  The API will list products' descriptions, on hands, long descriptions and more.  Plus I will be putting in options for you to call up lists of your orders to see the status, tracking numbers etc.

Leave me comments below with any suggestions you'd like to see included in the API.  And begin to brush up on your XML.

The new API sounds very good (I already process the csv files with a cron job and a special php class). Any chance you can do the same with ordering? I'd love to automate the order entry process.

Yes, Order Entry will deffinately be a part of the new API.

I dont understan very well about API, but it sounds interesting. This tool work in a ProStores website?
# Ben said on November 28, 2006 10:15 PM:

I'm not familiar with ProStores, but it should work.  The script will work in any html page on your site.  You just need to include it in the page where you want the stock status to show.

Thinking more about this... The new API will be available to update my database, right? (After I program a connection for it of course). I'm thinking the products API and the order API may benefit from a standard XML implementation. That may make the integration work I'll have to do easier... Just thinking out loud.

What is the API exactly, and what will it do. How do we utilize it?
# Ben said on November 29, 2006 9:13 AM:

Derek,  The API will return and accept xml, so you can do whatever you need with the data returned.

Scott, Watch this blog and the forums to see how it will work.  You will have to have some programming knowledge to use it.  If you don't, the on hand script is the way to go.

Ben, The hand on script is great but how do we install theis script into Osc because all the products I think are pulled from the product info file. thanks

Barry,  I'm not familiar with OSCommerce.  Perhaps you can post it on the forums and find somebody using it.
